In Alberta, mediation and arbitration are two forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) used to resolve conflicts outside of traditional court proceedings. Mediation involves a neutral third party, the mediator, who helps disputing parties reach a mutually agreeable solution. Arbitration involves a neutral third party, the arbitrator, who hears evidence and makes a binding decision on the dispute.
